OverviewThe Plumber (Apprentice or Journeyman) performs or
assists in the efficient installation, maintenance, remodeling, and
repair of the University hydronic and plumbing systems on assigned
buildings. The Plumber accomplishes this by applying apprentice or
journeyman skills in conjunction with advanced technical knowledge
and the ability to analyze and understand unique project requests.
Works as a member of a team on various projects or assignments. The
successful candidate will be hired into this position as either a
Plumber Apprentice or Plumber Journeyman depending on
qualifications and experience.Benefits Include:

Plumber Apprentice:
- Assists in repairs of utility distribution systems including
heat exchangers, valves, backflow, and waste systems.
- Assists, repairs, and installs plumbing/hydronic related
equipment throughout campus to meet code standards.
- Assists and performs preventative maintenance on plumbing and
hydronic systems and equipment as outlined.
- Responds to and repairs any and all water leaks or
plumbing/hydronic problems that are reported within campus
buildings.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and
supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and
environmental practices.
- Cleans equipment, shop area, and work sites.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Respond to work orders on assigned campus buildings.
- May participate in revolving on-call list.Responsibilities if
hired as a Plumber Journeyman:
- Troubleshoots and repairs utility distribution systems
including heat exchangers, valves, backflow, and waste
systems.
- Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing/hydronic related
equipment throughout campus to meet code standards.
- Performs preventative maintenance on plumbing and hydronic
systems and equipment as outlined.
- Responds to and repairs any and all water leaks or
plumbing/hydronic problems that are reported within campus
buildings.
- Ensures water quality to research labs by maintaining and
repairing all water softeners, distillers, reverse osmosis systems,
and other water treatment equipment.
- Maintains the domestic water supply to plumbing code standards
within campus buildings.
- Maintains all medium and low pressure steam lines and related
equipment within campus buildings.
- Monitors proper flow on all waste, drain, and vent lines,
including separators and traps, within campus buildings.
- Provides technical guidance and direction to less senior
plumbers.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and
supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and
environmental practices.
- Cleans equipment, shop area, and work sites.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Respond to work orders on assigned campus buildings.
- Participate in revolving on-call list.QualificationsMinimum
Qualifications:For Plumber Apprentice:

- Basic knowledge and understanding of building trades.
- Pass the Weisen Test of Mechanical Aptitude. - For Plumber
Journeyman:
-
- Four years of directly related work experience. - Preferred
Qualifications:
- Licensed as a journeyman plumber.Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of state plumbing and safety
codes.
- Advanced knowledge of plumbing/ hydronic maintenance and repair
techniques.
- Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types
of plumbing/heating systems.
- Basic computer skills. -
- Customer service skills. -
- Skill in the use of various hand and power tools common to the
plumbing/heating trade.
- Skill in welding, soldering, and brazing. -
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair steam, water, natural gas,
vacuum, and air distribution systems. -
- Ability to read, understand and build to specifications from
blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and
customers.
- Ability to troubleshoot all types of plumbing/heating
